Two more franchises in 2011 confirmed

IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi confirmed on Thursday that the current league will expand from eight to ten franchises starting 2011. “We will announce all the modalities in the first quarter of 2010,” he stated after an IPL governing council meeting in the city at the BCCI headquarters.

In reply to a question, Lalit Modi expressed his regret at the Pakistani players missing the trading window, but he was happy that they will now all go into the player pool in the auction coming up in January 2010.

At the same conference, BCCI president Shashank Manohar announced that IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi will hold the office till 2012.

“We had made a special provision in the BCCI constitution for the Governing Council to function till 2012 because you need continuity. The IPL Governing Council is a sub-committee like any other of the BCCI. But unlike the other sub-committees where it is re-drawn every year, this one function till 2012,” he continued. He urged members of the press to refer to the BCCI constitution before filing stories for their publications / channels.
