RCB go through their paces

The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s preparations for the third edition of the Indian Premier League T20 gathered further steam with the team having its second full fledged ‘nets’ session under lights here at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Tuesday.

Besides the three foreign players — South African duo of Roelf Van der Merwe and Dhillon du Preeze and the latest recruit from England Eoin Morgan — RCB also had skipper Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Manish Pandey, Robin Uthappa, Praveen Kumar, Sridharan Sriram among others who went through their paces under the watchful eyes of coach Ray Jennings.

The rest of the South African players — Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn and Mark Boucher — are expected to join the team in Kolkata where RCB take on Knight Riders in their first match on Mar 14.

The runners-up in the last edition in South Africa, RCB will have practice matches under lights from Wednesday.

Shiraguppi, Anil to benefit

The Royal Challengers Bangalore team owner Vijay Mallya has decided to give away the entire proceeds of the “A” Stand of the Indian Premier League match between RCB and Kings XI Punjab on Tuesday former Karnataka cricketers Somashekar Shiraguppi and GK Anil Kumar, recognising the services rendered by Shiraguppi and Anil to Karnataka Cricket as cricketers, junior selectors and coaches over the years.

The “A” Stand tickets for this game have been priced at Rs 1,100 and is available for sale at Gate No 5 from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm daily.

A few donor passes to attend a celebrity dinner during the IPL with Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, other RCB players and film actor Sudeep are also available.
