Bhuvneshwar Kumar ends silence on T20I snub for England tour after blockbuster IPL 2026

1 hour ago 11

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was unplayable for the majority of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. He had the lowest economy, average, and strike rate, with a minimum of 100 balls bowled, in the powerplay. Only Kagiso Rabada had more wickets, 20 to 17, with the field restrictions.

Bhuveshwar Kumar’s IPL 2026 performance ignored

In modern T20 cricket, more often than not, dominating the powerplay means victory. Bhuvneshwar didn’t allow batters to do that in IPL 2026. His performance was perhaps the biggest reason the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were able to defend their IPL title. But he went under the radar with Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli‘s blockbuster seasons with the bat. At the end, cricket is a batter’s sport.

Striking the best, in exactly the best way possible! 🎯

Many praised Bhuvneshwar, who dominated in a season where the bat was heavily outweighing the ball. But, in the end, it didn’t amount to much. He didn’t receive any awards. The bigger prize, an India return after nearly 4 years, didn’t happen either. Less than a week after RCB lifted the IPL 2026 trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s T20I squad for the tours of Ireland and England, along with the Asian Games 2026. Bhuvneshwar wasn’t part of any of the squads.

Unfazed by the snub

Most would be crushed. But Bhuvneshwar doesn’t let that happen. At 36, he’s seen it all. He’s gone through the ups and downs of international cricket. Injuries derailed him a lot. Stagnation and age meant India moved on from him. But he put his head down and got back to work.

In the last couple of seasons, we’ve seen him refine himself. He’s bowling the wobble ball now. He remains the best powerplay bowler, as mentioned above. But his death bowling has improved. Only Anshul Kamboj got more wickets in the 16-20 overs phase than Bhuvneshwar. He’ll continue doing the hard work for RCB and let the selectors worry about doing their job.

“It’s my nature that I don’t want to show that I want to play. I think everyone is doing their job. Selectors are doing their job. I’m doing my job. It’s their responsibility to select. If they think I’m good enough, they will do their job,” Bhuvneshwar told the Indian Express.

It’s clear that Bhuvneshwar isn’t fussed about a return. He played 229 matches for India across formats in a 10-year span. He featured in 7 ICC events: the Champions Trophy, the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup. Bhuvneshwar did all he could. The veteran quick considers himself lucky and continues to push himself, but if he doesn’t wear the blue jersey again, so be it.

“I have played; I have done what I had to do. If I hadn’t played, I would have been dying to be asked to play a match. I think it’s a big thing to play for India; I won’t say it’s a small thing; I’m one of the lucky ones that I have played,” he added.
