The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has seen a significant drop in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) brand value before the 2026 edition. The biggest cricket league saw a decline of 20% in its ecosystem value from USD 12 billion (INR 1,078,67 crore approximately) in 2024 to USD 9.6 billion (INR 86,291 crore approximately) in 2025.

IPL’s brand value drops

According to a report by Brand Finance, the geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan in May were a big reason behind the drop in brand value. The IPL 2025 was nearing its end when tensions between the two neighbouring nations escalated. The league was stopped, and players were sent home.

Although the league resumed in less than 2 weeks, the damage was done. But that isn’t the only reason. The report further stated that uncertainty caused by the mega-auction and subsequent team reshuffles has also played a part. That’s why BCCI and IPL have lost INR 21,576 crore in valuation.

CSK & RCB affected

According to News9, IPL franchises have been affected as well. Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) value has dropped by 10% to USD 105 million (INR 94.35 crore approximately) as the Mumbai Indians have overtaken them. This is despite RCB winning their maiden IPL title.

Chennai Super Kings’ brand value dropped by 24% to USD 93 million (INR 83.57 crore approximately). Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders were hit even harder. They went down by 35%, 34% and 33%, respectively. Gujarat Titans were the only team that saw a rise in brand value, and that too by just a meagre 2%.
