Sanju Samson pays hefty price for dissent after dismissal against DC, RR skipper fined 30% of match fees

Following his decision to protest the third umpire’s ruling after being declared out (caught) in the 56th game of the current 17th Indian Premier League (IPL), Sanju Samson has been fined thirty percent of his match fees.

BCCI statement

“Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the BCCI’s statement read.

The incident

Sanju Samson got RR close with a 46-ball 86. The Royals had a chance to win the 222-run chase thanks to that knock. Six sixes and eight fours peppered his knock.

However, Shai Hope caught his catch off the bowling of Mukesh Kumar. Hope nearly touched the boundary line, so it was a close catch. Even after Sanju Samson was given out by the third umpire, he refused to leave. He kept conversing with the on-field umpires, expressing his dissent.

Sanju Samson fined

Now, it has come to light that his dissent didn’t come without a consequence. He has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees by the BCCI because of his behaviour.
