In match 36 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 5 wickets in latter’s first home game in Jaipur. Despite a century stand (112 off 62 balls) between Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel, the 132-run stand between Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma overpowered SRH to cruise to their fourth consecutive victory.

As the match progressed, 15-year-old teenage prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again hogged the limelight for his knock of 37-ball 103, which also saw him smash the third fastest century in the cash-rich league. His knock also got special attention from SRH skipper Pat Cummins, who hailed Suryavanshi as his “new favourite”.

What did Cummins say about Sooryavanshi?

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Cummins said, “Yeah, I think he’s my new favourite player. He hits the ball so hard, and it’s great to watch. It’s good fun.”

Suryavanshi, who was dismissed by Praful Hinge for a golden duck in their last meeting, got his revenge quickly as he hit the Vidarbha bowler for four consecutive sixes in the very first over. His innings was laced with 5 fours and 12 sixes, which remains the most by Indian player in an IPL innings.

However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s second fastest IPL ton must have gone in vain, thanks to a 132-run stand by Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma for the second wicket which helped SRH chase the total 18.3 overs, he continued his brilliant run. The 15-year-old went to become first uncapped batter to hit two IPL hundreds and also only the third after Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson to score a century against SRH in the IPL.

His 100 off 36 deliveries, is the third fastest in IPL by balls faced after Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton and his own 35-ball century, which came in IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans (GT). Moreover, he has hit joint-third most sixes in an IPL innings alongside Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers.
