Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Samson included in Asian Games probable list; no Suryakumar Yadav

With just one game remaining in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the focus will move to the Indian cricket team. The Men in Blue have a jam-packed international schedule this year. One of the most exciting projects will be the Asian Games. However, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav could miss out on the 2026 Asian Games after the BCCI reportedly left him out of a 30-member list of probables for the continental event.

According to a report by Amar Ujala, the BCCI has shortlisted 30 players for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan later this year, with teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson among the names under consideration. Suryakumar, however, does not feature in the list despite recently leading the side to the T20 World Cup 2026 triumph.

Two Indian teams to play at same time?

The final 15-member squad will be selected from this long list. As per reports, the deadline to name the squad for the quadrennial could be as soon as June 10. However, the BCCI selectors will have a hard time selecting the squads, since the Indian schedule has been made in such a way that the senior side will already be embroiled in a bilateral series when the Asian Games will be going on.

 For those unaware, this year, Japan will host the Asian Games from September 17 to October 3, 2026. Meanwhile, the West Indies are also slated to tour India for five T20Is and 3 ODIs at the very same time. That could be the moment where you can see Team India featured twice on the same day, with different squads altogether.

This means the Asian Games team, just like in the last edition, will feature young names who have done well in the IPL.
